Pygmy Harbor Farm (2222 Robin Ben Lane) is hosting an Open Farm Day on August 9th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM — three hours to explore the property, meet the friendly goats, shop directly from the farm, and just breathe some fresh air.

It's an easy, relaxed morning with no agenda beyond wandering the grounds, connecting with the animals, and picking up whatever the farm has on offer that day. Bring the family, bring friends, and plan to stay a while. More Info

Appalachian Ballet Company is holding auditions for their 2026–2027 season on August 15th at Van Metre School of Dance (215 West Broadway, Maryville) — with slots available for dancers ages 10 and up. The audition fee is $20.

The schedule:

Dancers 12 and older should be prepared to perform en pointe. Artistic Directors Amy Morton Vaughn and Kylie Morton Berry will be evaluating alongside a panel of judges — including Beth Everitt, Associate Director of Programs and Productions at the Houston Ballet, serving as an independent outside judge. They're looking for strong classical training, exceptional musicality, engaging acting skills, and a genuine passion for dance.

And here's why this season in particular is worth auditioning for: 2026–2027 marks the Appalachian Ballet Company's 55th anniversary, and the lineup reflects it. The season opens with a haunting retelling of Dracula in October at the Haslam Family Flexible Theatre, followed by The Nutcracker in early December in both Knoxville and Maryville — with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra accompanying all public performances. Cinderella rounds out the spring in early April, and the senior company travels to Montgomery, AL for Regional Dance America/Southeast.

BnB Knoxville and Painting Around have teamed up for Family Night - Create & Play on August 7th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 6709 Maynardville Pike — a two-hour evening where the kids and adults split up and each do their own thing, then come back together.

Here's the breakdown: kids get two full hours in the foam dart arena to run, dodge, and battle it out. Meanwhile, adults work with Painting Around to create a custom picture frame — and everyone leaves with a free 4x6 on-site photo to put in it. The whole thing is $20 per participant plus tax, and it works just as well for a parent-child outing as it does for a larger family night out.

This is not your average race night.

Knoxville Dragway (160 Raceway Drive) is hosting Backside Bounty Series Race #5 on August 29th at 5:00 PM — and they're throwing in a live concert between rounds to make sure there's never a dull moment.

Here's how the Backside Bounty format works: the winner of the first race claims a bounty and gets a free class entry. From that point on, every other driver on the track becomes a bounty hunter — your job is to knock the bounty holder out before they reach the final round. If you do, you claim the bounty. If you don't, the bounty holder walks into the final round of the next event for free. It's bracket racing with stakes built in at every turn.

Every driver's gate fee goes directly into the class pots, which means the more drivers who show up, the bigger the payouts get. For spectators, it's a night of competitive racing with a live music soundtrack in between. More Info
