The Tennessee Smart Yards & Friends Festival, presented by the Knox County Master Gardeners, is happening September 12th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the University of Tennessee Gardens. The free event brings together gardening experts, non-profit organizations, and community resources for a morning of hands-on learning and conversation.

Topics on tap include wildlife gardening, composting, lawn alternatives, rain gardens, edible landscapes, and more. The Ask-a-Master Gardener table will be on site for one-on-one questions, food will be available for purchase, and there's a raffle throughout the event. No admission fee. More Info

Amadeus Concert Ensemble has announced its ninth season of free concerts as part of the Cathedral Concert Series at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus (711 S. Northshore Drive). Under the direction of Artistic Director Brian Salesky — a conductor with credits spanning the New York City Opera, the Kennedy Center, Barcelona, Chicago, and a 1992 Broadway run of Man of La Mancha — this season features 29 works by 19 composers spanning four centuries of music.

The season opens with PIANO PASSIONS on October 11th at 5:30 PM, featuring internationally acclaimed pianist Dr. Chih-Long Hu, Professor of Piano at UT Knoxville, in works including Vivaldi, Falla, Granados, and three Knoxville premieres — Koželuch, Turina, and Marcello. Maestro Salesky will join Dr. Hu at the keyboard for the duo concerto.

The season continues with FROM PARIS WITH LOVE on Sunday, January 10, 2027, featuring South Korean soprano Sunwoo Park in French art songs and opera arias; and closes with SCHUBERTFEST on April 25, 2027, starring soprano Alisa Jordheim in eleven works by Franz Schubert, including "Ave Maria," "Shepherd on the Rock," and Death and the Maiden.

The views are the backdrop. The music is the main event. On September 20th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Concord Yacht Club/Concord Sailing Center Community Open House welcomes the public for an afternoon of live instrumental jazz with CYC member Jorge Variego and his ensemble.

The program features beloved standards and timeless favorites from the Great American Songbook — the songs that have defined American music for generations — performed live in the warm, relaxed setting of the Concord Yacht Club.
