Run Early, Feast Later at The Gobbler 5K & 10K

The Gobbler 5K & 10K hits Fountain City's Adair Park on November 28th, at 8:30 AM, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The start line sits next to the Knoxville Parks & Recreation building at 1807 Adair Drive.

The flat, out-and-back course is easy to follow: 5K runners make the trip twice, and 10K runners go four times. With a generous two-hour time limit, walkers are welcome too. Every finisher gets a medal.

Registration is $30 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K, and it's online only through RunSignup, with no race-day registration. Packet pickup opens 30 minutes before the start and closes 10 minutes before.

It's a low-key, budget-friendly way to start your holiday season on the move. More Info

Wings, Labatt Blue & Beef on Weck at Bills Mafia's October Watch Parties

Calling all Bills fans — September brought some nail-biters, and October is shaping up to be even bigger.

Knoxville's own Buffalo Bills Mafia chapter gathers for every game at Clancy's Tavern & Whisky House (602 S. Gay Street), which rolls out the red carpet with a dedicated viewing area, Buffalo wings, and Labatt Blue on tap. Free parking at the State Street Garage makes it easy.

October's game days:

  • October 4th — 11:00 AM (and Clancy's is serving a limited supply of Beef on Weck, the classic Buffalo roast beef sandwich — get there early!)

  • October 12th — 8:15 PM (Monday Night Football)

  • October 18th — 4:25 PM

The club is also cheering for something bigger than the scoreboard: this year's chosen charity is Dolly Parton Children's Hospital, and members have been raising money through raffles and more.

You don't have to be from Western New York to join in. If you bleed red and blue, you've got a seat at the table.

Soil Science, Weed Wrangling & Garden Experts on Call

Fall is prime time in the garden, and the Knox County Master Gardeners have filled October with ways to dig in — most of them free.

Soil Science Class — October 10th, 10:00 AM–noon. Head to the Carriage House at Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum for a class on soil science, plant nutrition, fertilizers, and "green manure" — the cover crops that feed your soil over the winter. Light snacks, drinks, and a gift raffle are included. Register by emailing [email protected] with your name, email, and number attending.

Family Garden Day — October 18th, 1:00 PM–5:00 PM. Master Gardeners return to Knoxville Botanical Garden (2743 Wimpole Ave.) with an Ask-a-Master-Gardener table at this free family event, which also features a plant sale.

Invasive vs. Native Nature Walk — October 24th, 9:00 AM. Learn to tell invasive weeds from native plants on a free guided walk through Collier Preserve, led by a Knox County Master Gardener. Meet at 316 W. Emory Road.

Weed Wrangle — October 31st, 9:00 AM–noon. Then put that knowledge to work. Volunteers will pull invasive plants at Collier Preserve, with Ijams Nature Center supplying Weed Wrenches to get them out by the root. Bring work gloves and wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Sign up here.
