New Tennessee Laws effective

July 1, 2024

On Monday, July 1, more than 200 new laws will go into effect in Tennessee, impacting various aspects of life in the state.

  • The Ben Kredich Act (HB1600): The law mandates that first responders must inform individuals who receive naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, about the dangers of driving. They must explain that the drugs are still present in their system and that they can be charged with driving under the influence if pulled over.

  • The Laken Riley Act (HB1909): Prevents a public institution of higher education from banning adults who are lawfully present on the property from carrying a nonlethal weapon for self-defense, while allowing certain exceptions.

  • Reporting Immigration Status (HB2124): Requires law enforcement agencies to report to appropriate federal officials if someone is found not lawfully present in the U.S.

And many more! More info

Anakeesta Employee Encounters Bear

On Thursday around 9:30 p.m., a black bear entered a concession stand at Anakeesta. As the bear was leaving, an employee entered the stand. The employee and bear had brief physical contact, but no one was injured and no medical treatment was needed.

As a reminder, if you see a bear, do not approach it and do not let it approach you. If the bear continues its natural behavior, you can safely observe from a distance. If the bear stops its activity, you are too close and may provoke aggressive behavior. Do not run; instead, slowly back away while keeping an eye on the bear. Increase the distance between you and the bear. More Info
