A Memorable Evening at Freedom Fest on a US Air Force Base

Attending a Freedom Fest on a US Air Force base was an unforgettable experience. The event was a beautiful celebration of freedom and community spirit. As we arrived, the air was filled with the aroma of delicious food and the sound of lively music. Families and friends of active service members stationed at Davis-Montham Air Force Base in Arizona gathered, enjoying the entertainment and festive atmosphere.

The highlight of the evening was a breathtaking fireworks display, reminding us of the sacrifices made by our military for our freedom. It was a night of joy, unity, and heartfelt gratitude. Though a co-founder of the Knoxville Insider attended this event at a location far away from our home in East Tennessee, we thought it worth writing about here in our issue for July 4th to share the experience with our community.

It was a very moving experience, being amongst some of our active military and their families for a celebration of our freedom. Our military is the reason we are free. Their sacrifices are noticed and very much appreciated.

East Tennessee Historical Society Honors D-Day

To honor the 80th anniversary of D-Day and recognize the immense sacrifices of the “Greatest Generation,” the East Tennessee Historical Society is hosting a three-day conference on the Second World War. The event will take place from Monday, July 8th to Wednesday, July 10th at the East Tennessee Historical Society, 601 S Gay Street.

East Tennessee Scholars: Renowned local historians will present their research and perspectives on various aspects of the Second World War, focusing on both global and local impacts.

Prof. Richard Toye, University of Exeter: An esteemed historian known for his expertise in political and military history.

Allen Packwood, Director of the Churchill Archives, University of Cambridge: Serving as the keynote speaker, Packwood will offer invaluable insights into the wartime leadership of Winston Churchill and the broader context of World War II.

This three-day conference is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Second World War, celebrate the heroism of those who served, and reflect on the enduring legacy of D-Day. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a scholar, or simply someone who wishes to honor the Greatest Generation, this event offers something for everyone. More Inf
