Fun and Training with your Dog this Month

Zoom Room Knoxville-Hardin Valley is getting the fall festivities started with their Pup-Kin Spice Party on Sunday, September 8th!!! They will be at Hops & Hounds teaching some Recall mid-September. Friends of the Library Used Book Sale

Friends of the Knox County Public Library will hold its Fall Used Book Sale Thursday-Saturday, September 19th-21st at Central United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Ave. With the exception of collectible books, most items will be priced at $2 or less. In addition to thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks also will be for sale. Proceeds benefit the Knox County Public Library.

Thursday, September 19th, is for Friends’ members only from 3pm-7pm. Visitors can join at the door. The sale continues on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. On Saturday, items will be offered at half-price.

Marble City Opera Presents dwb (driving while black)

Marble City Opera presents the Tennessee premiere of dwb (driving while black) on Friday-Saturday, October 11th-12th at 7:00 p.m. in the Old City Performing Arts Center, 111 State Street, Knoxville.

dwb (driving while black) is a one-act, one-woman opera that was composed in 2018 by Susan Kander with a libretto by Roberta Gumbel. The main character is a mother contemplating the dangerous world beyond a parent’s control as her son reaches driving age.

The role of the mother will be sung by soprano Allison Sanders. Cremaine Booker will be the music director and play cello. David Verin will play percussion. Sanders, Booker and Verin performed dwb (driving while black) together at Opera Birmingham in 2023. The stage director will be Ivan Griffin, who also directed Marble City Opera’s production of The Christmas Spider in January. Tickets
