Townsend Fall Heritage Festival

The foothills of the Smoky Mountains will come alive with the sounds of Bluegrass music, arts and crafts, and the rich traditions of Appalachian cooking at the Townsend in the Smokies Fall Festival on September 27-28, 2024, from 10 AM to 6 PM. This free community event is designed for all ages, offering a family-friendly atmosphere that celebrates the time-honored traditions of the Appalachian region.

Festival-goers can enjoy traditional and contemporary Bluegrass music, clogging, and square dancing performances, while also exploring art and craft booths showcasing local talents. There will be numerous demonstrations of Appalachian skills, old-fashioned kids’ games, and delicious Southern food, including crowd favorites like fried pies and kettle corn.

This year, the festival has moved to a new location:
Townsend Event Center, 7930 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Townsend, TN 37882
Located next to the Townsend Visitor Center, all events will now be held at this central venue.

Orange Hat Brewing's 2024 Oktoberfest Celebration

Get ready for a festive celebration as Orange Hat Brewing invites you to their 2024 Oktoberfest on September 28th, at 10246 Hardin Valley Rd, Knoxville, TN 37931. The event is packed with activities and fun for the whole family.

Special events include:

  • State Qualifying Steinholding Competition

  • Orange Hat Collectors Ceramic Mug

Friends of Knox County Public Library Book Sale: to be held on Thursday-Saturday, September 19th-21st at Central United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Ave. Thursday, September 19th, is for Friends’ members only from 3pm to 7pm. Visitors can join at the door. The sale continues on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. On Saturday, items will be offered at half-price.

Pigeon Forge Bluegrass Festival: Get ready for two unforgettable nights of toe-tapping tunes and top-tier bluegrass at the Pigeon Forge Bluegrass Festival, held at the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. The festival kicks off on Friday, September 20th, and continues through Saturday, September 21st, with performances starting at 6 PM each evening (doors open at 5 PM). More Info

Creative Writing Series - An Evening with Tracy Dawson: on Monday, September 23rd at 7pm in the Lindsey Young Auditorium of John C. Hodges Library,1015 Volunteer Blvd, The event is free and open to the public.

Blue Ribbon County Fair: Step back in time and experience the charm of an old-fashioned country fair at the Blue Ribbon Country Fair, happening on September 28th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center! The cost of entry is a donation of $20 per car, making it an affordable and fun-filled day for the whole family. More Info

BNI I Love Monday Chapter's Quarterly

Biz 'n Brews Event

Join us for the BNI I Love Monday Chapter's Quarterly Biz 'n Brews event on October 17th at Schultzbrau (126 Bernard Ave) from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This quarter, we are raising funds to support Timothy and Alexis Kneller, previous chapter members who are facing an unimaginable challenge. Earlier this year, they received the devastating news that both of their children, both under 3 years old, have a rare form of eye cancer. The family has been traveling frequently to Philadelphia for their treatments.

If you can’t attend but would still like to support the Kneller family, please consider donating through their AngeLink page. Come enjoy great company, make valuable business connections, and help a family in need.  

Knox County Master Gardeners Classes

The Knox County Master Gardeners (KCMG) will be offering two free educational classes focused on garden cover crops and native plants. These classes will provide basic information on winter cover crops, soil preparation, and how to improve your soil with the use of native plants. Each class will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with the first held on Saturday, September 21 in Powell, and the second on Saturday, September 28 on the University of Tennessee campus. In addition to these classes, KCMG will be hosting Ask A Master Gardener sessions at the Norwood Branch Library in October and November. Certified Master Gardener Cid Letsinger will be available to answer gardening questions on Saturday, October 5, and Saturday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Norwood Branch Library is located at 1110 Merchant Dr., Knoxville.
