East Tennessee’s Biggest Brands Bring Tales from the Front Lines at "More Signal, Less Noise" AI Summit

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the business landscape, a new event in Knoxville is cutting through the hype to focus on what actually works.

The “More Signal, Less Noise” AI Summit will take place on April 23rd at 1:00 PM at The Square Room in Market Square. Designed as a “T-shirt friendly” summit, the event promises a practical, no-fluff approach to AI—centered on real-world applications inside actual businesses.

Rather than theoretical discussions, attendees will hear directly from leaders at some of East Tennessee’s most recognizable companies, including Clayton Homes, Bush Brothers & Company, PetSafe Brands, Ancient Lore Village, and more. These speakers will share firsthand insights into how they are using AI in their organizations—what’s working, what isn’t, and what businesses should realistically expect moving forward.

The summit also tackles one of the fastest-growing concerns in the AI space: legal risk. A live panel moderated by Haseeb Qureshi of ForthLaw will explore key topics like intellectual property, privacy, and data security, featuring legal professionals from Merchant & Gould, Woolf McClane, and independent counsel.

Hosted by Marcus Blair, creator of CoreIQ, and emceed by Chris McAdoo of Fighting Shape Impact Company, the event is intentionally designed to feel approachable and grounded. The goal is simple—help business owners and leaders separate fact from fiction (and FOMO) when it comes to adopting AI.

In addition to its business focus, the summit will also support a meaningful local cause. A portion of proceeds will benefit Harbours Gate, a nonprofit organization working directly in East Tennessee communities to provide services such as addiction recovery support, human trafficking intervention, youth mentoring, and food assistance.

For business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals navigating the rapidly evolving world of AI, this summit offers a rare opportunity to hear honest, practical insights—right from those on the front lines here in East Tennessee. More Info & Tickets

Transformational Gift Expands Ijams Nature Center’s Vision for Early Learning in Knoxville

A major new chapter is unfolding in South Knoxville as Ijams Nature Center announces a transformational gift that will expand its impact for generations to come.

In a landmark partnership, the Presbytery of East Tennessee has donated the former New Prospect Presbyterian Church property—located on 15.7 acres—to Ijams. The gift reflects a shared commitment to community, education, and stewardship of the natural world.

The property will become the future home of the Ijams Nature Preschool and a new early learning center focused on helping educators create nature-based programs in their own communities. In addition to the buildings, the site preserves more than 10 acres of woodland, offering a rich environment for outdoor learning and exploration.

Ijams leaders say the expansion will significantly grow their ability to provide hands-on, curiosity-driven education rooted in nature. Plans include expanding preschool programs, creating outdoor classrooms, strengthening partnerships, and offering professional development for educators interested in nature-based learning models.

The initiative also plans to collaborate with nearby programs like Anderson School Head Start to ensure children from all backgrounds can benefit from outdoor learning experiences.

For Knoxville, this initiative represents more than just a new facility—it’s a long-term investment in children, education, and the connection between people and the natural world.

Help Celebrate Cloella Sisk’s 105th Birthday!

A heartwarming opportunity to spread joy is making its way through the community as one local resident prepares to celebrate an incredible milestone - her 105th birthday!

Cloella Sisk, a beloved member of the Seymour community, will turn 105 years old on March 25th, and friends and neighbors are coming together to make the occasion extra special. You are invited to help celebrate by sending her birthday cards!

Organizers are hoping to collect at least 105 birthday cards, representing not only the years she has lived, but also the many lives she has touched along the way. This effort has become a meaningful tradition, as similar requests have been shared in previous years, beginning with her 100th birthday. Each year, Cloella has enjoyed reading every card she receives.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate. In past years, teachers, youth groups, and families have gotten involved—many children even creating handmade cards, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the celebration.

Those who would like to send a card can mail it to:

Cloella Sisk
P.O. Box 692
Seymour, TN 37865

Please send only cards - no gifts - so that Cloella can enjoy a mailbox full of well-wishes from across our community.

Sponsor Spotlight on Concord Yacht Club & Concord Sailing Center

For nearly 75 years, the Concord Yacht Club (CYC) and Concord Sailing Center (CSC) have been a cornerstone of sailing education and community engagement on Fort Loudoun Lake. Located on Northshore Drive in West Knoxville, this member-run, volunteer organization is dedicated to sharing the joy and skills of sailing with people of all ages across East Tennessee.

CYC/CSC holds a unique place in the region—it is the only sailboat education club on the Tennessee River until you reach Chattanooga. Through a wide range of programs offered throughout the year, the club provides hands-on, on-the-water sailing education that emphasizes safety, confidence, and lifelong learning. From beginner classes to advanced sailing courses, participants gain real experience in a supportive, community-driven environment.

Education is at the heart of everything CYC/CSC does. The organization hosts Sail Camp for youth, Sea Scouts, High School Sailing along with numerous adult sailing courses, helping introduce new generations to the water while strengthening skills for seasoned sailors. Beyond sailing instruction, the club also gives back through community-focused initiatives, including participation in the Knox County Public Library Children’s Festival of Reading and hosting three free Boater Safety classes each year. These safety courses are led by Officer Mike Raleigh of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and are open to the public.

Community connection is a major priority, and CYC/CSC is inviting the public to experience it firsthand at their Community Open House on September 20th. The Open House offers a welcoming opportunity for families, prospective sailors, and curious community members to learn more about sailing education, meet club members, explore the facilities, and discover how to get involved—whether as a student, volunteer, or future member.

The organization’s outreach efforts are led by Catherine H. Trapp,  who emphasizes that CYC/CSC exists to serve the broader East Tennessee community—not just its members. Through education, safety training, and public events, the club continues to make sailing accessible and inclusive.

Concord Yacht Club and Concord Sailing Center are located at 11600 S. Northshore Drive. More information about programs, events can be found at concordyachtclub.org. Community inquiries can be directed to [email protected], or Catherine Trapp can be reached at (865) 232-7836.

With decades of tradition and a strong volunteer spirit, Concord Yacht Club and Concord Sailing Center continue to chart a course toward education, safety, and community—one sail at a time.

Spring Photos with a Purpose - “Peter Cotton Paws” Event at River Dog Bakery

Looking for a fun (and adorable) way to celebrate spring with your pet? This one is sure to bring smiles—for both you and your furry friend.

River Dog Bakery and Royal Bark Social Club are teaming up to host “Photos with Peter Cotton Paws” on March 28th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at River Dog Bakery (5201 Kingston Pike).

Bring their dogs—and other friendly pets—for a festive spring photo with Peter Cotton Paws. Instead of a set ticket price, the event asks for a donation of pet food or a cash contribution, making it an easy and meaningful way to participate.

Even better, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to support two incredible local organizations: Feed-A-Pet (a division of the CAC Office on Aging) and Adopt A Golden Knoxville. Both groups work tirelessly to help pets and pet owners in need throughout the Knoxville area.

The event is open to the public and designed to be a relaxed, welcoming experience—perfect for snapping a cute seasonal photo while also giving back to the local pet community.

Whether your pup is camera-ready or just along for the fun, this is a great opportunity to enjoy a spring outing, support local organizations, and maybe even capture your pet’s next favorite photo.

Because let’s be honest… everything is cuter with a dog and bunny ears.

Final Two Saturdays of the Winter Farmers Market & a Summer Farmers Market Launch Party

There are just a couple chances left to enjoy the Winter Farmers Market at the Hardin Valley Event Center (2620 Willow Point Way) and they’re going out with a strong finish.

The final two winter markets will take place on March 28th and April 11th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These markets feature 100% local vendors, offering everything from farm-raised meats and eggs to cool-season vegetables, mushrooms, baked goods, honey, jams, jellies, salsas, and more. If you’re planning to come hungry, you’re in luck. The markets will include rotating brunch vendors, with Waffley Good serving up bites on March 28th and BLT’s & Burgers featured on April 11th.

Held inside the covered pavilion, the market is rain or shine, and it’s pet-friendly too—leashed dogs are welcome, making it an easy outing for the whole family.

And the good news doesn’t stop there…

The Hardin Valley market season will roll right into summer with a Summer Farmers Market Launch Party on May 5th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The summer market will then continue weekly every Tuesday through September 29, offering even more chances to shop local throughout the warmer months.
