East Tennessee Artists: UT Medical Wants Your Work on its Walls

If you're an East Tennessee artist, here's an opportunity worth submitting for.
UT Medical Center and the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville are calling for artwork for "The Art of Community" — the next edition of their biannual juried exhibition "The Art of Healing" — which will be unveiled in August 2026 as part of UT Medical's 70th anniversary celebration. Selected works will be displayed 24/7 in high-traffic corridors at UT Medical Center, visible to patients, visitors, and staff in one of the region's most visited buildings. Approximately 25–40 works will be chosen.
The exhibit seeks 2-D original pieces — painting, graphic arts, and photography — that reflect themes of community, togetherness, Knoxville and East Tennessee heritage, healing, nature, and emotional well-being. Work must be original (no AI-generated pieces), no larger than 36"x36", and created by artists 18 or older living in East Tennessee's 34 counties. There is no entry fee, but artists must hold individual Arts & Culture Alliance membership by the deadline. Juror is Knoxville artist Robert Felker, known for his Patron Saints of Rock® series and several beloved local public murals.
Submission deadline: July 5th. More Info
Which Spoon Goes Where?

Which spoon goes where? What's the difference between afternoon tea and high tea? And what exactly was a "Calling Hour" in Knoxville's Gilded Age parlors? You're about to find out.
Mabry-Hazen House and The Kraken's Cup Tearoom are joining forces for Steeped in History: Tea and Tradition at Pine Hill Cottage on May 24th from 2:00 PM–4:00 PM - a charming class and tasting that pulls back the velvet curtain on Victorian tea culture, etiquette, and elegance.
Step into the world of the Mabry-Hazen family, learn the rituals of the formal parlor, and discover the social customs of Knoxville's 19th-century elite - then sit down and actually taste what they were enjoying.
The menu from The Kraken's Cup (owned by archaeologist-turned-tearoom-maven Vallie Prince) features house-made petit scones, rotisserie chicken salad on mini croissants, classic cucumber with herbed cream cheese, triple chocolate cake bites, homemade butter cookies, and an assortment of iced and hot teas. Come in Victorian attire or come as you are - just come hungry and curious. Tickets are $40 per person and space is limited. More Info

Spend a Wednesday Night on a Historic Front Porch

Mabry-Hazen House invites you to Porch Time II — a casual, after-hours historical happy hour on Wednesday, May 20th from 6:00 PM–9:00 PM atop Mabry's Hill. Once known as Night At The Museum, the event has a new name that fits it perfectly: the sweeping wraparound porch of this stunning 1858 Italianate home is where people naturally gather, linger, and connect. Come watch the sun sink behind Sharp's Ridge while North Knoxville lights up below, drink in hand, history all around you.
The 1858 historic house will be open for self-guided tours all evening, with staff on hand to answer questions. At 7:30 PM, guests get rare behind-the-scenes access to the bottom floor, plus a chance to see artifacts not normally on display. Outdoor seating fills the porch and lawn — bring a blanket, a camp chair, a game, or just yourself. Every ticket includes one drink, with additional drinks available for $5. Presale tickets are $10 per adult (under 16 free, members $10); door tickets are $13. Rain date is May 27th.
All proceeds support Mabry-Hazen House and the preservation of one of Knoxville's most treasured historic sites. More Info
The Chocolate Factory is Open!

If you have ever dreamed of stumbling upon a Golden Ticket, now's their chance to live it. Knoxville Children's Theatre is staging a live production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the beloved story of young Charlie Bucket, his Grandpa, and the unforgettable magical tour through Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory - running through June 21st.
Directed by KCT alum Jen Cunic, it's the full story brought to life on stage: the eccentric candy rooms, the rule-breaking children, and the quietly extraordinary heart of Charlie Bucket himself. Whether your family knows every page of the Roald Dahl classic or is discovering it for the first time, this is the kind of show that sticks with kids long after the curtain falls. More Info
