On June 25th, a room full of Knoxville neighbors will sit down together over a shared meal — and then decide, by popular vote, where hundreds of dollars in community funding goes. That's the idea behind Knoxville SOUP, and it's as simple and powerful as it sounds.

Knoxville SOUP is a community micro-granting dinner: four local projects present their ideas to the room, everyone votes, and the project with the most support takes home the largest share of the evening's proceeds. For just a $5 donation at the door, you get soup, salad, bread, and dessert (with vegan and gluten-free options available) — and a vote that actually counts. Every dollar collected stays in Knoxville.

One of this year's four presenting projects is the Knox County Red Book of Resources, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Cheryl Oakes Sutton to connect Knox County residents with the services they need in moments of crisis. The Red Book exists to make sure that when life gets difficult, people know exactly where to turn — and a win at SOUP would directly support that mission.

If you make things — or you've been quietly thinking about it — Maker Mingle is the kind of event that exists specifically for you.

The next Maker Mingle drops in at Real Good Kitchen (2004 E. Magnolia Avenue) in on June 24th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The format couldn't be simpler: show up, meet makers, talk about what you're building. No agenda, no panels, no pressure. Just Knoxville's creative community in the same room, doing what creative communities do best.

XUL Beer Co. is sponsoring the evening with fresh brews, and Real Good Kitchen — a shared commercial kitchen space designed to help food entrepreneurs get off the ground — is providing food and hosting the whole thing. The venue is fitting: Real Good Kitchen exists for the same reason Maker Mingles do, which is to lower the barrier between a good idea and an actual business.

The event is free and open to anyone curious about Knoxville's maker scene. Registration is encouraged but not required. The link is below.

Big Fun Tuesdays are a free, all-ages monthly gathering at Mead's Quarry — Ijams Nature Center's stunning former limestone quarry — happening every first Tuesday, May through October, from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM. Presented by Ijams and the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, each evening brings together a social bike ride, a local food truck, the Ijams beer garden, and live music or activities — all in one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in Knoxville.

The July 7th edition features a Children's Market and Nature Art/Journaling Fun — a perfect summer Tuesday for families. The AMBC social ride kicks off at 6:00 PM sharp (plan to arrive a few minutes early to sign in). Music and activities get going around 6:30–6:45 PM. The food truck and beer garden will be open throughout the evening.

There's no cost, no ticket, nothing to sign up for in advance. Just show up at Mead's Quarry, which sits within the Ijams trail network off Island Home Avenue, and let the evening take care of itself. Big Fun Tuesdays run all the way through October, so if July 7th doesn't work, put the first Tuesday of every month on your radar for the rest of the summer.

Summer is peak boating season, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Knoxville-First Flotilla wants to make sure you're out there safely. Their full-day BOAT AMERICA recreational boating safety course is coming up on June 27th at the Church at Sterchi Hills (904 Dry Gap Pike) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The course is taught by experienced, certified Coast Guard Auxiliarists who cover everything you need to know — how to prepare, operate, and navigate a boat safely on local waters. Questions are actively encouraged throughout the day, and instructors will stick around after class for any additional questions.

A few things to know before you go: If you were born on or after January 1, 1989, passing the course exam earns you a completion card that fulfills Tennessee's Boater Education Certificate requirements. To receive the certificate, you'll also need a TWRA registration ($10, available at Walmart or Academy Sports) — bring it with you to class. The course fee is $30, paid in exact cash or check the day of.
