Knoxville Ranks 57th Most Stressed City in the U.S.

Stress is a part of life for everyone, but recent years have amplified stress levels across America due to challenges like the pandemic, high inflation, and rising homicide rates. In Knoxville, these pressures have pushed the city to rank as the 57th most stressed city in the United States.

Major stressors such as money, health, and the economy continue to weigh heavily on people's minds. Despite these widespread concerns, about three in five adults refrain from discussing their stress, fearing they may burden others. The impact of stress extends beyond individuals; it has significant economic repercussions. For instance, workplace-related stress alone costs the country over $300 billion annually.

To identify the most and least stressed cities in America, WalletHub compared 182 cities—including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state—across four key dimensions: 1) Work Stress, 2) Financial Stress, 3) Family Stress, and 4) Health & Safety Stress.

Knoxville's rankings in specific areas were as follows:

  • 153rd in Workplace Stress

  • 65th in Financial Stress

  • 72nd in Family Stress

  • 21st in Health & Safety Stress

Here are a few ideas to de-stress: exercise, get 8 hours of sleep, meditate, practice deep breathing, take a walk, talk to a therapist or friend, or spend time outside! Full article by WalletHub can be found here
