Knoxville's First Safe Haven Baby Box: A Year of Providing Hope and Safety

Approximately one year has passed since Knoxville introduced its inaugural Safe Haven Baby Box. This vital installation found its home at Station 17 of the Knoxville Fire Department, located at 4804 Western Avenue. Designed to provide a secure and anonymous option for parents to leave their newborns, the Baby Box is accessible 24/7. Its primary aim is to safeguard against the illegal abandonment or endangerment of newborns.

In the months following its introduction, the Baby Box proved its worth when a newborn was safely surrendered to it in June. Subsequently, the child was welcomed into the foster care system and placed with a nurturing family.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee's New Initiative to Mentor Students

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee is actively addressing the increased need for mentors in schools through its new initiative, BoldPath, designed to meet young people where they are and foster strong relationships. This program operates in Maynard Elementary School and Vine Middle Magnet School, pairing students with BoldPath coaches for personalized or group mentoring.

The initiative underscores the significant influence mentoring has on student achievement, with hopes from BoldPath coaches, to become role models for the students they guide.

New Tempo by Hilton Hotel to Elevate Downtown Knoxville's Skyline with Nine-Story Development

Plans are underway for the construction of a new nine-story hotel in the heart of downtown, close to Krutch Park. This development is set to take place on a currently vacant plot that serves as a parking lot.

The proposal outlines a design for a hotel offering 176 rooms. The structure is envisioned as a four-story hotel sitting atop a five-story parking facility, making it a nine-story building in total. The ambitious project aims to include a variety of amenities such as a meeting room, lounge, lobby bar, a café with street access, an elevated bar with outdoor seating, a fitness center, and retail spaces.

This upcoming establishment is to be branded as "Tempo by Hilton" and will feature entrances along the 400 block of W. Church Avenue, as well as the 600 blocks of Walnut Street and Market Street. Additionally, plans include the development of two retail outlets at the intersection of Walnut Street and Church Street, alongside the café located along Market Street.
